In November 2017, CIPA celebrated its 15th anniversary of serving our U.S. customers. Of course, fifteen years is an important milestone from a business perspective. As pharmacists dedicated to protecting and enhancing patient lives, it's an even more momentous achievement.
Since 2002, CIPA member pharmacists have been filling prescriptions for American patients with chronic healthcare conditions. Serious but manageable ailments like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a variety of other chronic conditions that require constant control through the use of daily medication.
During this time period, the cost of these pharmaceuticals in the U.S. has skyrocketed beyond belief. Many of our customers are living on fixed incomes, and cannot afford to pay the ever-increasing prices of these drugs. So they often skip doses to extend the time before they need a pricey refill. Or they might split pills in half, which for some medications can render them ineffective. Or they don't get their prescription filled, because they need the money to put food on the table that month instead.
In celebrating the 15th anniversary of our Canadian pharmacy association, we are celebrating the lives we improve on both sides of the border. In particular, the lives of Americans, who can get the daily medications they need safely from our members. The dramatic savings they obtain - savings of 50-80 percent over what they would have to pay in the U.S. - allows them to access the medications they need, at prices they can afford, to live healthier lives.
We're honoured to be part of our patients' lives in this way. We're always reviewing prescriptions and consulting with doctors for patient safety. We're always available to answer your questions via email or a phone call. And look forward to serving you, and being part of your healthier life, for the next 15 years as well.
